The naughty side of The Barmen

The Professors · the tamest thing we do

Hens cocktail
making class

An hour of shaking, a lot of tasting, and not a single dare. Hosted in your kitchen, your Airbnb or a venue — everyone makes their own and everyone drinks what they make.

Why groups pick this one

It solves the mixed guest list

The hardest hens party to plan is the one with the bride's mother, two colleagues and four friends who have known her since she was seventeen. Games split that room. A cocktail class does not — everybody has something in their hands, everybody is learning the same thing, and the colleagues stop being colleagues about eleven minutes in.

It is also the best icebreaker we know for the front half of a bigger night. Run the class first, let The Barmen X take over afterwards, and the group arrives at the loud part already warmed up rather than three drinks behind.

Real bartenders

Taught by people who do it

Not a host reading from a card. The Professors are working bartenders from a company that pours 250+ events a year, teaching the technique they actually use.

At your place

Your kitchen, Airbnb or venue

We bring the spirits, mixers, shakers, ice, glassware and everything else. You need a bench and a sink.

No dares

Nothing cheeky unless you ask

This is the tame package. If you want the class and then the other kind of night, book both and we will change gear.

How it runs

Roughly an hour, start to finish

The shape is always about the same. The drinks change depending on the group and the season.

  1. We set up before you notice

The team arrives ahead of the group and turns a kitchen bench into a working bar — station, ice, glassware, garnish. You do not have to clear anything but the bench.

  2. A drink in every hand first

Nobody learns anything holding an empty glass. The first cocktail is made for you while the class is explained.

  3. The technique that actually matters

Why a shake is different from a stir, what dilution does, and how to balance sweet against sour. Ten minutes, no jargon, and it genuinely transfers to a home kitchen.

  4. Everyone makes their own

Two or three cocktails each, made properly, with a bartender at your elbow correcting the grip. This is the part people photograph.

  5. A drink for the bride

We build a signature cocktail with the group and name it after her. It goes on the menu, and it is in every photo from the rest of the night.

  6. We clean up

Pack-down is included. The kitchen is left as we found it, which at that point in the day is worth more than the class.

Then the night changes

Class first, The Barmen X after

This is the most common booking we take. An hour of class while people are arriving and still sober, then the bar stays, the shirts come off if the group asked for that, and the games start.

The advantage over booking the loud version alone is simple: by the time the first game runs, nobody in the room is a stranger. Games land far better on a group that has already spent an hour laughing at each other's shaking technique.

Good to know

Cocktail class questions, answered

How long is a hens cocktail making class?

About an hour for the class itself. It works as a standalone booking, or as the first hour of a longer night — every package has a minimum booking duration which is set out in your quote.

How many people can do it?

It runs well from six people upwards. Larger groups get more staff so that everybody still gets hands on a shaker rather than watching someone else use one — that is the whole point of the class. Tell us the headcount and we will size the team.

What do we need to provide?

A bench and a sink. We bring the spirits, mixers, shakers, ice, glassware, garnish and everything else. On BYO packages the group buys the alcohol using our shopping list.

Which cocktails do you teach?

We build the list with you. Espresso martinis and spritzes come up most, and we will usually cover one shaken drink, one stirred and one long — because that is three different techniques rather than three variations on one. Tell us what the bride drinks and we will work backwards from that.

Do you run classes for non-drinkers?

Yes. We make proper non-alcoholic cocktails rather than lemonade with a garnish, and anyone in the group can do the whole class alcohol-free without it being a thing.

Where do you run them?

Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, and further across Queensland and interstate on request. Travel is quoted up front.

Weekdays are cheaper

Monday to Thursday hens bookings get 20% off

A Thursday cocktail class costs meaningfully less than a Saturday one, and the team is fresher. If the date is flexible at all, this is the lever to pull.
